Overview
The PT61 is a float and thermostatic steam trap with an integral thermostatic air vent, in cast iron construction with stainless steel internals, designed for draining condensate from low and medium pressure steam heating and process equipment. It gives a continuous modulating discharge at steam temperature with excellent automatic air venting, keeping the full heating surface active on unit heaters, heat exchangers, driers and jacketed vessels. Rated to 228 psig maximum allowable pressure and 428°F, and available as the PT61S with Steam Lock Release for siphon-drained and rotating equipment. Supplied, sized and serviced for steam systems across Nepal.
Features & Benefits
- The float-and-thermostatic combination gives continuous modulating discharge at steam temperature, which suits process equipment like heat exchangers where condensate must be removed the instant it forms to keep the full heating surface active.
- The integral thermostatic air vent removes air automatically on start-up, which is a real advantage over inverted bucket traps that vent air slowly through a small bucket hole and can air-bind at commissioning.
- Discharging at steam temperature means condensate does not back up and sub-cool in the equipment, maintaining full heat transfer efficiency, unlike thermostatic-only traps that hold condensate back to cool it.
- Three differential-pressure variants (65/145/200 psi) let the same body be matched to the actual line pressure, since a float trap's orifice must be sized to the differential it works against, and capacity drops as that rating rises.
- PT61S with Steam Lock Release handles applications where condensate is trapped behind a steam lock (common in rotating or siphon-drained equipment), which a plain float trap cannot clear on its own.
- Cast iron body keeps cost low for general low-to-medium pressure duty, appropriate to the 228 psig ceiling; for higher pressure or SW/FL ends, the PT61SS (all stainless) and PT62 (cast steel) variants are the step up.
- Bimetal air vent element resists water hammer and superheat better than a liquid-filled thermostatic capsule, giving longer service life in systems that see pressure or temperature swings.
